Pitbulls potentially dangerous

If you ask me, just about ANY dog is "potentially" dangerous.

This excerpt was taken from an article entitled "Auburn Considers Rules For Pit Bull Owners" ~ listed at http://www.komotv.com/news/story_m.asp?ID=41965

"Cerino's committee looked through a list of different dog breeds to find dogs that have "fighter" qualities. They came up with a list of several dogs, including the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Bull Terrier, and the Pit Bull Terrier as potentially dangerous dogs.

Opponents say any breed of dog can be dangerous if raised irresponsibly."

It totally bugs me when I see small dogs acting aggressively and everyone around tries to "comfort" this dog and tell the dog things like, "It's okay. Don't worry" while trying to pet the dog to try to calm him/her down. But when a pitbull acts out ~ oh my goodness, it's vicious, put it to sleep!

Why is it that if a small dog growls, and snarls, and bites the owners think it's no big deal? I guess because they aren't really "hurting" anyone with their small little teeth, no one cares. However, small dogs often display traits that people fear in pitbulls. If you're going to categorize pitbulls as "vicious and bad" because some of them bite and growl at other dogs or people, then you also include breeds such as poodles, chihuahuas, or pomeranians in that same category if you've ever seen any of these little dogs "act aggressively" toward other dogs or people by growling, snarling, or biting. Yes, I agree that pitbulls are capable of causing more physical harm when they act out, but this does not make them more badly behaved than the little dogs you see acting agressively.

Pitbull pulls most weight per pound

In a pulling competition this past weekend an American Pitbull Terrier named Diggs pulled the most weight per pound. The 45-pound pitbull pulled 2,670 pounds. A total of 59.3 times his body weight. Wow! The competition was held in Monmouth, KS.

Will Colorado Springs Start Pitbull Ban?

An attack on a 64-year-old man earlier this month in Colorado Springs sparked talk of a city-wide ban of pitbulls. Denver, Aurora and Castle Rock are a few of the cities that have already banned the breed. City Councilman Richard Skorman in Colorado Springs wants to see a ban, but not everyone feels a ban of pitbulls is the best solution. Ann Hagerty of the Pikes Peak Humane Society believes that the problem lies in owner responsibility. She does not feel that a pitbull ban is a logical solution to the problem.

For those of you who own or want to own a pitbull, please be responsible. Learn as much as you can about how to properly care for the breed so that they can be enjoyed rather than banned. Check out our Pitbull Information page for resources about caring for pitbulls.

Our website 808BluePitbull.com is getting a makeover!

The new and improved design actually ready to go so don't be too surprised if the site looks different from before. We're still working on our "About Us" page so that link isn't live yet, but just about everything else is ready to go. The only other page we have to transfer over still is the 2nd page of the pitbull gallery. However, that will be up and running soon.

Enjoy the new look!

The truth about the American Pitbull Terrier

We bought this book "The American Pit Bull Terrier Handbook" and I just wanted to share an excerpt from the beginning of the book. Here it is:

"The APBT will surprise you."

"This book is not a piece of public relations literature about this breed. It is not designed to gloss over the negatives and accentuate the positives about the APBT. This book's goal is truth, and sometimes that truth can be revealed only when the interaction between a specific dog and a specific human being has played itself out."

"So, prepare to be surprised. The APBT is not the dog you may perceive it to be and owners of the APBT may not be what you imagine them to be."

We hope you get to know the breed better than just through what you hear in the media. If you only knew about humans what the media said, you'd probably think humans were all terrible too.

Become a Virtual Pitbull Breeder

I came across this website that I found interesting. I had no idea something like this even existed. The website is ShowDog.Com. Basically it's a place where you can own quality dogs to raise, feed, groom, train, breed, and show through virtual simulation.

Watch your dog grow from puppy to champion. There are over 100 breeds to choose from. American Pitbull Terrier is not one of them, but American Staffordshire Terrier is a breed that you can choose to raise and show. I don't know exactly how it works, but I just thought it was interesting and thought it may interest you as well.

Check it out for yourself by clicking on the image below.
