New picture of Squirt

Squirt owners posted a new picture of him on our My Space page. It's in the comments section. I love the one where he's looking out the window. He looks so big!

Remember, Squirt is Elekoni's brother. They were littermates, but Squirt moved to New Jersey.

Go check out Squirt's picture at www.myspace.com/808bluepitbull ~ you'll have to scroll down a bit. The picture shown there is dated 6/16/2006. It's in the comments section of the page.

Mana got a toy

Every time we go visit Mana Loa we try to bring a toy for him to play with. Sometimes we forget, but this past weekend we took an actual dog toy there and he loved it. The other times we took a tennis ball or an empty bottle of water. Those things we didn't want to leave with him for fear that he'd shred them up. This time, we were able to leave the toy with him. We'll see how that goes. We were also able to set up a grooming appointment for him on Sunday and gave him his first bath. It's something he needs to get used to although it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Unfortunately I forget to take my camera so that I could get pictures of the bath. Oh well. We'll probably set up another grooming appointment for next Sunday so maybe we'll get pictures of bath time then. We probably won't be able to visit Mana this Saturday though because we have something to do in the morning and then it's the first UH football game of the season in the afternoon. They may not win, but wherever we go to watch the game will have some ono food. So that's what I'm looking forward to. Then next Monday is Labor Day - Woohoo, 3 day weekend. It's only Monday and I'm already looking forward to the weekend ~ LOL.

808 Blue Pitbull Officially on MySpace

I never thought this would happen, but as of today, 808 Blue Pitbull is officially on MySpace. I don't know if I'm satisfied with the look of our page yet, but it's up. We'll probably keep working on it until we get it looking good. Anyway - there are a couple of pictures of Mana Loa that there that we don't have here yet, so go check us out at
www.MySpace.com/808bluepitbull

Hey - don't laugh 'cuz we don't have too many friends yet - LOL. This is all new to us, so we don't have hundreds of friends like other people. :)

More Pictures of Koni - Blue Pitbull

Here are some new pictures of Elekoni. We just took them last night. Humans get red eye, but dogs tend to get "blue eye." Although in one of the pictures of Koni, Studs Page, it looks like he has red eye.

Anyway, enjoy the photos! Click for larger image.

Mana Loa is Growing

I got to go by and visit Mana Loa yesterday. He's definitely growing. I still can't wait until his quarantine time is over. He's been in there for about a month, so he has about 3 more months to go. Next time we go, I have to remember to take his food and to schedule his immunizations. We should also get some Frontline for him as well. I think it'll be a challenge bringing home a dog who's been in quarantine for 4 months. I think it may take some time before he gets to the point where he understands the rules and is well behaved. But that's okay, we'll work with him.

Still no puppies :(

Well, it's two days past Shasta's due date and still no puppies. We're really beginning to accept the fact that her breeding didn't take. I don't know what the reason could have been, but there really aren't any signs that she's just a little later than normal and will be having puppies any day. I was really hoping for her to have a litter because I think the puppies would have been beautiful and gentle. Let's hope that Elekoni's breeding went better. We'll certainly keep you posted if anything changes.

Pet Insurance for your Pitbull?

Should you get pet insurance for your pitbull? Here's a CBS news story that may help you make that decision. They also have some suggestions on insurance companies that offer pet insurance.

I know that vet bills can be tough to handle, especially when they are unexpected.

So go and check out this story and see if pet insurance is right for your pitbull.

Didn't get to visit Mana Loa

This weekend was so super busy that we didn't get to go visit Mana Loa (our blue pitbull puppy). :( We'll certainly have to go and visit him this weekend and maybe even tomorrow since the girls get out of school early. Plus I need to make another payment to the Quarantine for his stay there. *sigh* - I can't wait until he's out. I'm sure once that happens, we'll be going through dog food like crazy! A 40 lb bag doesn't last a week around here.

Though we're anxious to see how he grows, I know that when all our dogs are older (Li'i, Ho'o, and Mana) the dog food will go even faster! If you told me 5 years ago that I'd have more than 2 dogs as once, I would have told you you were crazy! I never really had a dog growing up and lived mostly in apartment or townhouse type places. But these pitbulls are certainly growing on me. :)

Shasta Puppies?

If Shasta's breeding was successful, puppies should be here in about a week. It's really tough for us to tell whether or not she's carrying puppies. She really doesn't look too fat, but then again, neither did Angel (Shasta's Mom) with her first litter and she had 9 puppies. Shasta has picked up weight, but were not sure if that's just due to a change in food and the fact that we are feeding her like she is having puppies. Some signs make us think that she will have a litter, but then there's no guarantee because when dogs go through false pregnancy they have the same signs. So all we can do is wait and watch. We'll certainly let you know if she does have a litter. I know Busta's owners are anxiously awaiting news as well.

Elekoni breeding update

Well, we did have a female come by to breed with Elekoni. She is a good size, Purple Ribbon, fawn/chocolate female. They did successfully hook up once that we saw, but they were together for a few days before and after that, so it's likely they got together more than just that once. If everything goes as planned, puppies should be due around October 10th. The owner of the female is the one to contact for puppies from this litter. If you're interested, let us know and we'll put you in contact with him. Pups will probably run $600-$800.

If you have any questions shoot us an e-mail. We have a couple of pictures of the female, but not too many. She is about the same height as Elekoni and weighs about 80 lbs.

Koni's Sister has Puppies!

We were so excited when the owners of a pup from Angel and Polu's first litter contacted us. When we had that litter, we had debated for weeks which pup we would keep. It had been between a puppy we called "Ella" (short for Elephant - a female) and Koni. They both looked very similar, just that one was a male and one was a female. As you know, we kept Elekoni and we always wondered what happened to "Ella." She was, of course, the first one to go.

Just a few days ago, Allen and I were talking about her and were wondering how she's doing. She was the one pup we've never heard from, but one that we really wanted to see how she turned out. Well, we found out! It turns out that she just had a litter of puppies and her owners were able to get in touch with us again through the UKC website (our website wasn't up yet when that litter was born, so the owners of the pups from that litter don't really know about this site). So, now we have some pictures of her. Her name is Storm and she looks great! Here are the pictures. The pups were just born, but if you are interested in a pup, contact us and we'll put you in touch with Storm's owners.
