Dogs for Sale

We have a number of dogs up for sale and are opening Moose up for stud for a limited time. See pictures and details at http://www.808bluepitbull.com/forsale

When we announced dogs for sale on MySpace, everyone was wondering why we were selling them. Some were worried that we knew about a legal issue that they didn't. There's no legal issue and we're not selling them because we don't like them or anything like that. In fact, it's the opposite. Right now the demands on our time in other areas of life are great. We aren't able to give each dog the type of attention and time we want to and know they need and deserve.

So, we are looking for good homes for these dogs.

If you have questions or would like to discuss payment arrangements, contact us via e-mail at info [at] 808bluepitbull.com.

Moose for Stud
We are opening Moose up for stud for a limited time to the first 3 approved females who reserve their breeding - discounted rate of $1500 for the ones who contact us first (and get approved - you own the litter outright).

Our Pitbulls Getting Some Exercise

Here's a short bunch of video clips of Diamond and Moose getting some track time in. Diamond is training, Moose is just in it for the exercise/discipline aspects more than anything at this point.

Anyway - Enjoy...

By the way, we do plan to attend the Bully Bash 3 at the Water Park on October 25th, so if you see us there, please say, "Hello."

Also, we're definitely looking forward to the November 8th, Ultimate Hawaiian Island Bullies show at Haleiwa Elementary. That should be a ton of fun!

If anyone has a broadband wireless laptop card we can borrow, we could probably arrange to broadcast the show live vis ustream. We'll see how that goes. I'd also have to have a power source so that I can keep my laptop plugged in, and of course, there is the little detail about having wireless access at the event. Right now I don't have a card.

I wonder if a store would be willing to lend me one for the event...Hmmmm....

Hawaii Dog Attack in the News

If you're in Hawaii, you may have heard about the 2 month old baby that died because of an attack by a family pet. Of course, any time a dog attack is in the news or reported by the media, the word "pitbull" is going to be involved.

However, I was a bit surprised to hear a Hawaii Humane Society representative say that they don't believe the incident was specific to a particular breed. Watch the news clip or read the transcript at KHON2.

KHON also called us to ask if we'd like to talk with them about the dogs, but neither Allen nor I really like being in front of a camera, so we referred them to a few others who may have wanted to talk and Loretta Black of Hope Kennels is the one that made a statement for the news.  We were there, along with Albert and Rose Woods to show some support, but tried to stay out of view of the camera.  In the clip you will see Makua Alii of Hope Kennels as well as Legacy (Makua daughter of NSBP).

Anyway - go ahead and watch the news clip.

We Have Hope for Both of Them

As you may or may not know, we bred both Liilii and Diamond about a month ago. Actually, about 5 weeks ago to be more exact. Now Diamond definitely looks thicker, BUT we also changed her food (she's not on raw...yet). She's now eating a higher calorie food since she exercises a lot, so that may be part of her getting thicker, plus she just went through a heat and just made 1 year old, so it could just be "normal" development/maturing. So we don't want to read too much into it. The picture shown here was taken this week.

Li'i, on the other hand, doesn't look all that much bigger. The only "sign" that she might be carrying pups is eating less right around the 4 week mark. She has since gained her appetite back in the past few days and *may* seem slightly thicker. But then again, could just be seeing what I want.

In either case, the reason we have some hope for them both on their breeding is because of how their abdomen feels. Now, I'll admit, we're no where near experts in this area. We just did some reading on what we might be able to look for. Then we did some gentle feeling of their abdomens and compared it to what we felt when we did the same thing with some of the other females in our yard. AGAIN, it may just be a case of wishful thinking, but to us, it feels like there's a chance they both caught.

We're hoping to get a second, more expert opinion on Diamond tomorrow morning. With Lii, we'll just wait and see. The reason we want to have a more definite answer with Diamond is because we want to know whether we can continue to train her to pull for the upcoming events, or whether we have to lay off and resume her training after pups arrive.

We'll keep you updated on both breedings as we find out more.

In case you're not familiar with the breedings:
Lii was bred with Mana Loa - muscular, well toned match up

Diamond's stud hasn't been announced here yet, but since we have told people who've asked us, we'll let you know too. Diamond was bred with Hawaiian Rhino, which, needless to say, means that if she does catch, that litter will more or less be spoken for as soon as it drops...if not sooner. Diamond is the daughter of Tubbs which makes her half-sister to Rhino's mother (Tequila Sunrise). So if you like that look, Tubbs, Tequila, Rhino....that's what we're going for with this breeding. We'll see if it takes.

More Evidence of Angel Thriving on Raw

As we've said previously, when we made our move from our old house, Angel had a bit of a rough transition. She lost a lot of weight while we lived with family waiting for our new house to be ready. Since we moved to our own place, she did pick up weight, but her skin and coat never did look the same.

As you also know, we've started her on a raw diet and she's doing so much better now. It's been a few weeks and we've learned that she much prefers beef to turkey. We've learned a lot about raw feeding from www.rawfed.com (especially the "myths" link) and from googling different terms regarding raw feeding.

Some people worry about feeding bones to their dogs and that's understandable. So far, we haven't had any problems. Chicken bones are quite soft and easy to chew, especially for beginners. Also, the prey-model diet, which is what we're following, only consists of 10%-15% bone - the rest is meat and organ. So it's not like you're feeding your dog tons of bones. Plus, feeding the appropriate sized bones helps with feeding bones safely.

Anyway - on to the main part of this post, the additional evidence (aside from the picture in this post) that Angel is doing well on raw. Like, we said, Angel lost a bunch of weight when we moved. She was down to about 60 lbs at one point. Though she did gain weight since we got into our own place, the most she reached was about 67 lbs. When Angel was "in her prime" she weighed between 70-75 lbs (between her 1st and 2nd litter).

Now, after a couple weeks on raw, Angel weighs in at 78-80 lbs. She is the 2nd heaviest dog in our yard ABOVE Fella and behind only Moose who is the one dog in the yard taller than she is. That's our girl!

New Picture of Little Miss

Here's a long awaited new picture of Little Miss (Moose's sister). She is out of Pacific Pitbull Kennels, Geronimo x Niki. She certainly has a different build from her brother, but she has a nice structure none-the-less. Miss has yet to go into her first heat and she is already 9 months old. So, she probably won't be ready to breed until next year when she'll be even more matured.

We're working on putting together a breeding for her. If we can swing it, it'll be a good one. We'll keep you updated on those plans as they unfold.

For now though, we're just continuing to work with her and train her and even work her out in a harness as well. She likes it. I don't know that she'll be super strong, but she's one of the FASTEST dogs we have in the yard! Oh, and she's one of our raw eating dogs. I really do think it's doing her some good too.

New Picture of Fella

Here's a couple new pictures we have of Fella. He is now 9 months old and getting the hang of posing for pictures LOL.

He is also working on weight pulling. He wasn't interested when we first tried working with him, but now he's more into it, so it's a good way for him to get some exercise!

If you're not familiar with Fella, he is Ganghis Kon/Razor's and will be 1 year old on September 21st. He's already getting stud inquiries and we're looking forward to seeing what he can do as a stud.

If you're interested in using Fella as a stud, give Allen a call at 808-864-2848. We plan on bringing Fella out to one of the dog events that are going on this year. We're not sure which ones yet. We'll keep you updated on that though.

Here's one more picture of Fella from a few days ago...

New Pictures of Baloo

As promised, here are a few of Baloo's new pictures. Like we said in Ella's post, he is now 3 months old. He used to be quite a bit smaller than Ella, but this little guy is now catching up! He's still about a pound lighter than she is, but the size difference between the two of them is not so big now.

While Ella has been doing better with marker training, Baloo is actually doing better with the crate training. So they both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Here are the other pictures we took of Baloo earlier this week. Hopefully we'll be able to get better ones of both him and his sister. Eventually we need to add them to our Males and Females pages so we'll need to work on getting more pictures of them to feature.

New Pictures of Ella

Ella is our female pick from Beautiful's litter. She is now three months old and is coming along nicely. She and her brother Baloo are finally done with their last set of shots so now we're taking them out more, getting them used to being on a leash, crate training them, and doing some marker training with them as well. Ella seems to be catching on quicker with the marker training than Baloo is, but I think part of it is that I usually work with Ella first, so there are probably some treat crumbs on the ground by the time I work with Baloo. I think the smell of the treat crumbs on the ground distract him. I need to remember to try working with him first and see if it makes a difference.

ANYWAY - here is another picture we took of Ella recently. Next time, we'll share a few of Baloo.

But for now, here is one of Allen trying to "stack" Ella. As you can see, we're still working on it. This is the first time we ever tried stacking her, so she's allowed to not be perfect just yet. LOL

Angel is Loving Chicken

For the past 6-8 months, ever since we moved out of our other house, Angel just hasn't quite gotten back to her "normal" self. She has gained weight since we moved into our new house, but the skin irritation she began while we were living with family (between houses) never really did completely go away. It did get better, but even recently, she's had flair ups of irritation every now and then.

After reading more and more about raw diet and learning that sometimes it is VERY helpful with allergies and skin irritations, we decided to try it out for Angel. Maybe she was one of those dogs that just doesn't do well with all those "extra" ingredients commercial dog foods have. So, when we decided to switch some of our dogs over to raw, she was one of them.

I have to say, after just ONE week of raw feeding, we're already seeing a difference in her skin and coat. Before this, even as recently as a month ago, her coat and skin just looked like that of an "older" dog. She simply looked like she was aging. But now, after a week on raw, she's looking soooo much better and I think she's getting even closer to her "ideal" weight as well.

We'll share a picture that will give you an idea of what raw has done for Angel. Ever since her first litter, she had spots on her back end where hair had fallen out. It's always been something that just kind of stood out when you saw her from the back side (and not in a good way) - now those spots are not as noticeable.

In the picture you'll also see how irritated her skin was about a month ago. We had tried switching her food, we gave her anti-biotics, we used medicated shampoo, etc, etc, etc and still, her skin just didn't seem to ever get back to what it used to be. I really thought it was just her getting older and had almost accepted that she would never be the same again. But look at the picture below....you'll see a big difference.

The picture on the right was from a few days ago (after almost a week on raw). The picture on the left was from almost exactly one month before the other. That's pretty much one of the last pictures we have of her before she started on raw feeding.

To us, she just looks much healthier now than she did before she started on raw food. Her skin has cleared up, her coat is shiny, and the color of her coat is getting nicer too. On top of all of that, she LOVES her food. No more days when she isn't interested in eating her food. We're so happy to have her back on track to being the beautiful girl we know she is.

Crates Are Not Only for Naughty Dogs

I saw an ad for a dog crate that was for sale and the seller said something to the effect of the crate being for those times when your dog is naughty. That caused me to believe that the seller of the crate felt that the only time a dog should go in a crate is when he or she is naughty.

Now, we use crates quite a bit, and now that I'm going through a pack structure training program with our younger dogs, we use them even more. In our use of crates we see that dogs don't necessarily feel "punished" when they are in their crate. In fact, many of them are more comfortable there than anywhere else. It becomes their "place, their "spot," their security when things are going nutso around them (think New Year's Eve fireworks going off for hours everywhere).

After reading that ad, I just had to say that crates are not only for "naughty" dogs. Yes, they can be used in training, but they can also be very beneficial to the health and well being of your dog. It's not just a mean punishment to put a dog in a crate.

Wow - Testing Breeding Dogs?

Back in April we put up a new picture of Moose and were criticized by one visitor who told us that if we were responsible breeders we'd wait until Moose had titles and health tests to prove he was "worthy" of being bred. This came in response to the fact that we mentioned he'd probably be ready and available for stud later this year.

I just came across a quite "heated" article in regards to testing breeding dogs, but before I share that, there's just one thing to say about "titles."

There are NO UKC shows available in Hawaii and anyone who lives in Hawaii knows how big an endeavor it would be to take dogs up to the mainland to get them into shows so they could get "titles" and then bring them back home (with the quarantine requirements and such). So that's the ONLY major reason why we aren't entering our dogs into registered shows.

I DO know that Moose's siblings (offspring of his father Geronimo) ARE winning shows in the mainland US and we believe that he is pretty darn close to being as "worthy" of breeding as his show winning siblings.

Okay - on to that article I mentioned. This is written by a breeder with another perspective on health testing breeding dogs. She brings up some interesting points and facts. Read the article HERE.

Online Training for All Breeds

You may have seen this before if you've been visiting this site for a while. We've mentioned this program before and even have it listed on our Pitbull Training Resources page.

The reason I'm mentioning it again now is because I've noticed that a number of our visitors are choosing this particular training resource for their pitbull training.

Why is this training program so popular?
  • Because it doesn't require you to take your dog to where the trainer is
  • You can work it around when it's convenient for YOU rather than trying to work out a schedule with a off line dog trainer
  • People with young puppies can begin training as early as possible, without having to take their puppy out in public before their puppy has completed their vaccinations
  • Because it costs less than a tank of gas

This program allows you to...
  • Use it whenever it's most convenient for YOU and your dog
  • Immediately apply what you're learning in your own home vs learning it somewhere else, then having to remember it and try it at home
  • Begin training your puppy as early as you want without the threat of taking your puppy out in public
  • Check out a free lesson online right now
  • Pay WAY less than some of those "we come to you" training programs out there
  • Repeat lesson at ANY time because you have unlimited access to the information vs just one shot at a lesson during a 12 week program
  • Quickly and easily begin training TODAY without having to wait for a consultation or wait for the next "12 week session" to begin
Go to Dove Cresswell's Online Training Site and view a free lesson today.

Things to Avoid as a Breeder

There are a couple of things we've seen breeders say or do that just don't sit right with us. We think that most responsible breeders know these things and follow them. Now, these aren't hard fast rules that are being broken or anything, just things that for us, personally, don't "feel" right.

Here are 3 big ones we think should be avoided.

1. Don't breed your dog "because she's in heat." Of course, you're going to breed your dog when she's in heat, but if that's the ONLY reason you're breeding her at that time, it's not really a good reason. What often happens in this case is that the owner breeds their dog with whatever stud is available whether it's a good match or not. Then they say something like, "Well, she was in heat and that's the only choice I had." NOT TRUE. If your female goes into heat and you don't have the "Right Male" available for her, the right thing to do is PASS THE HEAT. That is another choice, breeding her to an unsuitable male is not "the only choice" you have. Do NOT breed her if you don't have a good match for her! Perfect example from our yard: Angel. We would like to have one more litter with her, but since Polu's passing, we had a very difficult time finding the right male for her. Now we have a couple of options, but we passed a number of heats because we weren't about to breed her with just anyone. The Polu and Angel combination is a tough one to top. I'm still not sure we'll ever top it, but I do know that now, we have some solid choices we can utilize to produce a quality litter with her if we decide to do so.

2. Don't do this "for the money." Okay - obviously, when we do a breeding we plan to sell the pups and bring in money. BUT if that is the ONLY driving force behind you breeding dogs, it's not going to work. It's like being an athlete and being driven ONLY by the "Big W" or the WIN. You can experience some success, but I really don't think it will be as much as if you do it for the "right reasons." When we had our first litter, it was really out of the desire to share what we had with others. We loved our dogs. They were such a great part of our family. People always commented on, not only how beautiful they were, but how great THEY were as dogs and as part of our family (temperament/behavior etc all impressed many people). We thoroughly enjoyed our dogs as did other people and we wanted to GIVE THAT and SHARE THAT with others. It wasn't just about the money. With this "mission" in mind, we were quite successful. We put out quality dogs and people came back to us again and again to let us know how great their dog is and how happy they were that they had their dog. Then, the ONE TIME, I lost sight of that. The one time I basically looked at a litter for the money and just about counted on having money from the litter it just didn't work out. The breeding didn't take and all the plans that were made with the money that I had hoped to have came to a screeching halt. Obviously, I'm not perfect. Whenever money and success is involved, it's very easy to lose sight of those good intentions and why you got started in the first place. So it's important to check yourself every now and then and take a look at why you do what you do...and if the driving force behind you breeding dogs is just "the money" it's probably not going to work out as well and as smoothly as you thought it would. This concept doesn't only apply to breeding dogs or to sports, it holds true in other areas of life as well. I've seen it in action in my own life and in others, so it's something that I do my best to remember and live by.

3. Don't think breeding dogs will provide you with "easy money." I just want to laugh any time people make remarks like that - that raising dogs is "easy money" or they act like, "Wow, you're so 'lucky' you have lots of money because you just sold puppies." Lucky? What? Hey, I worked HARD to take care of that litter and of the parents (among other things) to EARN that money. It has nothing to do with luck. Of course, most people to make those kinds of remarks have never taken care of a litter. If you have ever been there to take care of a litter 24/7 and had that responsibility solely on your shoulders, you KNOW how much work, time, money, and worry goes into it. Most people who make comments about "easy money" have also never gone through the time and expense to raise litter OR care for the dogs that produce a litter throughout an entire year. Seriously, the money we earn from one litter doesn't even come close to "breaking even" with our dogs if you add up all the expenses and time involved with caring for the dogs on an ongoing basis. We're talking food, bowls, leashes, collars, flea and tick care (on the dogs and in the environment), heartworm prevention, vaccinations, vet exams, grooming supplies, cleaning supplies, etc, etc, etc. There is a LOT that goes into raising dogs. Our dogs, on a daily basis, get a BARE MINIMUM of 3 hours of our undivided attention each day - that's time that we're spending on dogs and only dogs every single day and that's only if we're doing the bare minimum of cleaning them up and feeding them. If you're going to throw in exercise, training, bathing, etc - then it's really more like 5-6 hours per day.

So if you're new to breeding or thinking of breeding - please think about the 3 issues above and be sure you are...

1. doing this for the right reasons
2. ready to work hard

Good Info On Breeding Dogs

One question we often hear is, "Can you breed father/daughter or uncle/niece? What about half brother/half sister?"

Of course you CAN, but whether you SHOULD or not is another story. Of course, there have been cases in which father/daughter was bred, or half-brother/half-sister. Some had great results, others disastrous. In general, we don't think it's such a great idea to do those types of breedings. Other breeders would disagree. It turns out that the UKC has some great information for breeders and for those who are thinking of breeding their dogs. I think that their take on which combinations are sound and their advice on attempting other combinations serve as a great guideline.

Another time I'm going to talk about a few things to avoid as a breeder, but for now, check out the UKC website and their "Breeder's Corner." Go to www.UKCDogs.com

It's On - Mana x Lii

This is a breeding we tried before, but since we didn't really have our own place for breeding at that time, we didn't let them hook up naturally and it didn't take.

So this time around, we decided to let Mana and Lii do their thing. We mentioned last week that we'd be doing this breeding, and now it's happening!

Mana Loa is a Notorious Juan Gotty Grandson out of Mikeland's Blue Gator and Mikeland's Sammara.

Li'i is a Razor's Edge/Sierra-Gaff female. Last time we bred her with Tubbs and she had just 4 pups. If you've ever seen Lii, you know she's not a huge female, so we're really don't expect big litters out of her. If this breeding does take, we do believe that availability will be limited.

If you want to stay notified of what's going on you have a number of choices. You can...
We'll be sending out updates via all those channels if this breeding works out.

Lii x Mana

We're going to hook Mana up with Lii this month. Mana Loa is a grandson of the Notorious Juan Gotty and Lii is a Razor's Edge/Sierra female. These two both have muscular builds and should produce some solid puppies.

We'll let you know how the breeding goes and whether or not it takes. Lii's last litter had just 4 pups, so if it does catch, availability will probably be quite limited.

If you want to stay up to date with what's going on, you can either sign up for our fHome Page and we'll send you updates via e-mail.

Our Dogs in This You Tube Video

You can imagine my surprise when I clicked on a MySpace bulletin which included a video of pits and saw our dogs included in the video. Now normally I would be annoyed that someone took pictures from our site or myspace and used them without permission. I guess maybe on myspace there are no rules about that? But on our site, it does say that the images are not to be copied and used without permission. Anyway - it would have been nice to have been recognized in some kind of credit list, but people are recognizing our dogs in the video and even the person who posted the myspace bulletin asked readers if they could spot us in there. I wouldn't want people continuing to use our pictures without our permission or without credit (a simple url in the work is sufficient), but I do think it was an honor to have our pics used in the making of this positive pitbull you tube video.

Here's the video - can you spot our dogs? There are probably about 7 or so pics of them: Angel, Koni, Nalu, Beautiful, Amaya (owned by Danny, produced here)...they're all in there.

Pitbulls Come to a Screeching Halt

Acccckkkkkk....who shut the gate?

This is Mana, Lii, and Diamond playing around one afternoon. Of course, we didn't really shut the gate in their face, it's just how they run up to the fence whenever they play. It just turned out to be a funny pitbull picture I thought you'd enjoy.

Blue Pitbull Picture - Fella and Mana

We had to share this picture too. We took this one that night we were taking all the group shots. This is a picture of Fella (left) and Mana (right).

Remember, Lil Fella is just 7 months old in this picture. He is our Razor's Edge/Ganghis Kon "puppy." This guy is still growing and filling in. Mana Loa is almost 2 in this shot although he seems to still be maturing as well, he's certainly not still growing at the rate that Fella is.

Many times we are asked what and how much Fella and Moose eat. Right now we have them on Nutro High Energy dog food since Nutro stopped making their Venison food. Since Moose and Fella are still puppies, we feed them 2-3 times a day for a TOTAL of about 6 cups of food per day. According to the feeding guidelines on the bag, dogs the size and age of Moose and Fella should eat 6-8 cups a day. So there is no need to go way above and beyond that for your dog to maintain and healthy growth rate. On occassion, we can tell they are going through a growth spurt because they eat more toward that 8 cup mark rather than the 5-6 cup quantity.

But that's a bit off topic....here's the picture I was talking about.

Champ's New Headshot

This is another thing I meant to share a while ago, but just didn't have the time. Champ's New Headshot is now up on Mana's website on the produced page. I can't remember if I posted this picture here or not. I don't think so. Champ's Headshot is up on our myspace page (in Champ's album), but if you haven't seen it yet or you haven't been to Mana's website yet, go check it out. It's the last picture shown on the page and was taken when Champ was about 10 months old.

Pitbull Picture Allen and the Girls

Since our other post showed a picture of Allen and the Boyz, you know we had to follow that up with Allen and the Girls. This picture doesn't show all of our girls, but we do have another one that includes Diamond which we will share in another post. Of course, that's still not everyone, but that's all we got this time around.

In this picture, from left to right, we have:
Beautiful (1 year old)
She-Mo (4 months old)
Little Miss (7 months old)
Liilii (2 years old)

Again, we'll have to try our photo shoot again with better lighting, but for now, here's the picture we got of Allen and the Girls.

Website Updates Done

Just in case you haven't been to the site in a while, we just a bunch of updates. Of course, the most obvious thing is probably the header at the top of the page. We've been wanting to re-do that for a while now and finally got it done.

Also, there are new pictures of Moose, Fella, Diamond, and Liilii all up on their pages.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Here's a new picture of She-Mo at 12 weeks. She is the half sister to the pups that Beautiful is expecting (same sire). I'm sure this looks just like those stretched pictures you see on other sites, BUT, it's not. It's just how she stands and if you've seen her sire or her brothers or sisters, you'd know they're wiiiiide.

Beautiful's Puppies

Beautiful is due to drop in 2 weeks. We took her to the vet for an exam just to check up on her. The vet said things look good and they think she'll have at least 8 puppies (possibly 1 or 2 more). We made the mistake of giving her her morning feeding before taking her in so since her stomach was full of food it was tougher to make out each individual puppy. They did count 8 for certain, but think there is a chance there may be 1 or 2 more. We'll have to wait and see.

We are getting quite a bit of calls and e-mails about this litter, so please stayed tuned for more information if you're thinking of picking up a puppy. Price is going to run about $1500-$2000. First pick male and female are reserved for us, however there is a buyout available at $3000 if you want first pick male or first pick female from this litter.

Hopefully we can get an updated picture of Beautiful posted. If you want to make sure you know when the litter drops, sign up for our mailing list on the Home Page.

Oops, I Forgot About Champ

Oops, Allen read the last post and pointed out that I forgot about Champ. He's another one that made big gains as well. When we weighed him in December, he was only 67 lbs (just made 9 months). We weren't all that surprised because Champ is still lean. He's no where near filled out yet and his dad, Mana Loa, was about that weight at that age too.

BUT when we weighed him recently (at 10 months), he was over 80 lbs - that surprised us. When this boy fills out, he's going to have some weight behind him!

The Pitbull Weigh In

Every once in a while we weigh our dogs. Last time we got some weights on them was before we moved back into our own place (end of December/early January). We recently scaled some of them again and boy were we surprised with a few of them. Previously Diamond was about the same weight as her mama Lii. Actually, Lii was about 45 lbs and Diamond was about 47 lbs (pretty much the same as what she weighed at the Dog Pull in November).

Then there's Fella and Moose. They were both 4 months at the time of weigh in and they were both 50 lbs. It's funny because Moose seems to have so much more girth, but I guess Fella's got good weight to him too.

And back to Diamond, who was just 47 lbs a couple months ago...she weighed in at 63 lbs! Yowza!

So everyone seems to be thriving in our new home. Even Angel who had some kind of reaction back when we moved out of our other house. We stayed with family for a bit while we waited to move into this place, but there's something about that yard that just isn't right with her. We ended having to take her to the vet and she had actually dropped below 60 lbs at that point. She got a shot and some medication which seemed to help, but she still wasn't picking her weight back up like we'd hoped. We were quite worried about her. However, now that we've been in our own place again for about a month, she's back up to 70+ lbs which is such a relief to see.

It's great to be in our new place where we have much more room for the dogs (and the kids of course) and it makes us happy that the dogs seem to like it here as well.

Mana X Lii - Breeding this Week

We have our Mana Loa X Liilii breeding going down this week. Mana Loa is a Notorious Juan Gotty grandson. He is the son if Mikeland's Blue Gator and Mikeland's Sammara. Liilii is 75% Razors Edge and 25% Sierra/Gaff.

If the breeding takes, the pups are expected about mid-March.

On our Produced Page you can see pictures of dogs that were produced from Lii's last breeding (with Tubbs) and Mana's last breeding (with Shasta Girl). This is the first time these two will cross, but we think it'll be a great mix and will produce some great offspring.

Contact us if you are interested in this breeding. Info [at] 808BluePitbull.com.

It's the New Girl

Ahhhh yes. A while back (in this post) we mentioned that we were looking forward to the pick up of two females and that you'd be meeting them soon. We'll it's time to meet the first one. She is 13 weeks old right now and has been with us for about a week now. She's doing great and she's beautiful. About a year ago I told Allen that, if we had a chance to get a champagne colored dog, I wanted one. Just a few months later, Mana's litter threw champagnes and we got Champ. The other coloring I wanted if we ever got a chance was a tri-color. I never thought we'd have the chance to buy one here. I thought we'd have to bring one in from the mainland. BUT....look what we got...

Not only is she a tri, she's a blue tri-color and a Notorious Juan Gotty granddaughter on top of that! We're very happy to have her. She is Moose's sister. In fact, she's the one we originally wanted from the litter, but when we inquired about her, she was spoken for. Then, after we had Moose a few days, the breeder called and said her original buyer backed out. Kealii over at Pacific Pitbull Kennels knew we were interested her, so he gave us the first chance to pick her up when she became available. Thanks again to Pacific Pitbull Kennels!

Excited About the New Year!

Happy New Year! Can you believe it's already 2008?

We're excited about this year because we are going to get to see our new male additions grow up. By the end of the year they'll be a little over a year old and may have even completed their first breeding. This is also the year that we plan to breed Beautiful and maybe even Diamond for the first time.

So for those of you who have been calling and e-mailing and calling again asking when we're going to have puppies....stay tuned!

Another thing we're looking forward to is the pick up of two more females. They will more of less complete our line up for the time being. You'll meet them within the next month or so. These two probably won't be ready to have their first litter until 2009, but they are going to be something!

As you can see, after taking a bit of a break in the second half of 2007, we have a LOT going on here are 808 Blue Pitbulls. Again, the easiest way to stay up to date on breedings, available puppies, and available stud service is to sign up for our mailing list on the home page of the site. Just enter your name and e-mail address in the form and we'll send notification of all major events to you via e-mail.

Hope you had a safe and wonderful holiday season!

808 Produced - Leif

We got a visit last week from one of Angel X Polu's kids (and his owners of course). It's always nice to see pups as they get older. We are always interested to know how they are doing and love to get pictures. However, when we get to see them in person it's a special treat. So thank you to Rick and Sarah for taking great care of Leif and for bringing him by to see us every now and then.

Here are some pictures from Leif's visit. He was from Angel's last litter and is just over a year old in these pictures. He's growing into a big boy. When he went to the vet a few months ago, he was already pushing 90 lbs!

Pitbull Training Help

Lots of people ask about pitbull training. Our dogs are not house trained because they don't live in the house, but they are all crate trained. Most of what we know we either watched on Dog Whisperer or we read in training manuals and products. We share a couple of these resources on our website on the Pitbull Information page and even more on our Training Resources page.

Today I came across another resource that I thought I'd share with you. This one is simply called Pit Bull Training.

If you have unwanted behaviors you'd like to eliminate in your dog, maybe this resource can help.

Here's just some of what you'll discover...

  • The silly mistake most people make when trying to train their Pit Bulls ...and how it can actually make your dog harder to train.
  • The number one reason Pit Bulls do anything ...and how to tap into this amazing driving force behind Pit Bull behavior.
  • The simple "anchor" method that cuts training time by as much as 71% ...and makes Pit Bulls obey you like they were operated by remote control!

No Pitbulls are Good with Children...

OMG - if I didn't just see that statement made on a message board and get very upset! The person said that her father had a pitbull who was nice and great with people, but terrible with children. She saw the dog nip at chidren on 3 different occasions so the pitbull is always put in a closed room when kids are around. She went on to say that pits see children as little animals instead of as humans and that's why you always hear stories of attacks on children.

If your dog (pit or not) has "issues" with kids, then they have dominance/aggression issues in general that need to be addressed. They are not "balanced" dogs.

You better believe I responded to that post and said that that statement was ABSOLUTELY FALSE.

Then I posted these pictures...

Now this person was posting her statement in response to someone else who was concerned for a family member's new baby. She said that their pit was hyper and aggressive. She also said that this dog had attacked and killed a number of small animals, but that the owners "swear" the dog has mellowed out. She also said that they worship their dog and never discipline it.

Now I don't care what kind of dog that is...pit or not...I would also be concerned. Not so much because they own a pit, but because of "how" they own this dog and because they are obviously not giving the dog what it needs to be a balanced/happy DOG.

Would I trust my kids with that dog? Pit or other breed, NO WAY. But DO NOT say that NO pits are good with children because that is simply NOT TRUE. It's owners like the one above though, that give the breed a bad name and result in "incidents" that can be very dangerous.

Male Pitbull Puppies Available

We've had some requests for more pictures of the males from the litter. So, here they are. These pictures were taken May 2nd, so the pups are a week and a half old (10 days).

Click on the photo for larger view

Personally, I think #2 is the pick. But, the 3rd one has great white markings and the 4th has a good looking head and the 5th is unique....okay so I like them all.... lol

808 Blue Pitbull Going to Japan

Well...not us, but one of our puppies. The last puppy from our last litter was purchased by a guy in Japan. Only thing...Japan needed 40 days notice before we could send her. So today was the day we took her to the airport to start her journey to her new home in Japan.

I hope she has a good trip. Bye bye Blue Ribbon (that's the name the guy in Japan gave her).

Pictures from the Pitbull Bash

Well, I have to say, for a first time event, the Pitbull Bash went quite well today. Of course, I think it can be bigger and better in the future, but today's event was lots of fun and a great day for local pitbulls and those who love the breed. We took a few pictures today. We also heard there were a few connections with a few mainland magazines there, so hopefully our local pits will get some mainland exposure.

Those of you who were able to come to the bash, it was great to see you! Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello. For those of you who couldn't make it, hopefully we'll do this again and you'll be able to be a part of the next event.

Hopefully, we'll be able to get some video from the bash up as well, but that may take a little while. But for now, here are some of the pictures from today.

Pitbull Bash This Sunday - Got Shirts

Don't forget to come by the Pitbull Bash this Sunday at Waianae High School.

We got some shirts printed up for the Pitbull Bash - so look for us in these shirts. We do plan on having some for sale there at the bash (L and XL only). So if you're going you can pick up a shirt and you'll also know how to find us! I don't think any other kennel is making shirts of this color, but we'll see.

Hope to see you there this Sunday, April 29th at Waianae High School.

Mana Loa X Shasta Litter

We really need to go check on Shasta some time this weekend to see how she is doing. But we have been getting a number of e-mail asking about her litter.

Normally we start taking deposits at 4 weeks. Half down is required to reserve the pup you want. This deposit is non-refundable unless the vet finds a health problem or defect in the puppy. Picks for this litter (1st and 2nd male and female) will probably go for around $1500.

Please let us know if you have any other questions and we'll keep you posted on the litter.

Here is a flyer about the bash - CLICK to enlarge

Feel free to save this to your computer and print it out for friends and family.

Possible New Litter

Just wanted to let you know that we may be having another litter in 2 weeks. This would be a breeding between Mahoe's Shasta Girl X Mahoe's Mana Loa.

Shasta Girl is the daughter of Angel and Polu and littermate to Elekoni (Sierra/Gaff, granddaughter of Hawaiian Rhino). You can see a picture of her on our females page.

Mana Loa is a Gotti male and grandson to the Notorious Juan Gotti. His sire is Mikeland's Blue Gator.

These pups should drop right around April 22nd. We didn't mention it earlier because we've tried to breed Shasta before and she's never caught. But we recently checked up on her and she's looking like she may have this time. Here's a picture we took of her a few days ago when Allen was checking up on her.

Here's pics of her and Mana

If you're interested in a pup from this litter, please let us know by e-mailing us at

info @ 808bluepitbull.com (take out the spaces) for more information.

Blue Pitbull Pictures

Here are a few more recent pictures of the dogs. This is another one of Beautiful and Mana Loa. I have no idea what they are looking at, but it sure isn't me trying to take their picture that they're focused on.

Here is one of Elekoni from the pull on Sunday. He didn't compete, but he met a bunch of pals.
Remember, he is Beautiful's sire, so we have a picture of father and daughter in this post. :)

Dog Pull Next Sunday

If you're in Hawaii, don't forget, there is a dog pull next Sunday, March 18th at King Intermediate. We're going and actually thinking of pulling Mana. We'll see what happens.

So if you're free on Sunday, please pray for some sunshine and come by King Intermediate. The competition is supposed to start around 11am.

See you there!

Breedings Page Updated

Hey, just checking in. Did some quick work on the breedings page. We have some possible announcements coming up. You can get more information on that on the page for breedings.

We've also been getting lots of calls about Mana Loa and when he'll be available for stud. That will be happening around June after he is a year old. Call us for more information or if you're interested in setting up a breeding with Mana Loa. Good temperament in interested females is a must! Terms/payment are negotiable. We're willing to work with you to make things as easy as possible. Mana's definitely turning out nice....can't wait 'till he starts filling out. Right now he's just lean and muscular, but the height/width is there.

Mana and Shasta's Play Date

Mana and Shasta got together over the weekend for a play date. Here are some of the pictures of them. Remember, Shasta is Koni's sister and is produced by Polu Boy X Hawaiian Angel. They had fun running around, but Shasta is definitely much faster than Mana Loa. Maybe it's because Mana Loa isn't even a year old yet, but Shasta was running circles around him. Here are the pictures from the weekend.

Also, Shasta's beginning her heat, so we may breed the two of them for Mana's first breeding.

Crusin' in the shade after all that running!

Okay - not the best picture, but oh well.

Is Shasta going to share her water?

Yup - that's Shasta laying in the shade behind Mana

Hawaiian Angel Looking Good

We don't have as many pictures of Angel as we do of the boys. She simply doesn't pose as much as they do. But here are a couple I took this month.

She's looking pretty good after having 13 pups huh?
