Diamond Earns APA Weight Pulling Points

Diamond did great this weekend at the APA sanctioned pull.

The first day she came in 2nd in her class (pulled the same weight as the other dog ahead of her, but he was a pound lighter). She was 1st for dogs under 70 lbs for most weight pulled. Again, they pulled the same weight, but she did it faster so she got the win for that one. Bella (owned by Ben and Sasha) won most weight pull per pound for dogs under 70lbs. She pulled the same weight as Diamond, but only weighed 53 lbs vs Diamond's 62.

Today, Diamond weighed in at 61lbs and did better.

She dogs below her pulled 1050lbs, but couldn't pull 1200lbs. Diamond pulled the 1200lbs and the next round's weight of 1350lbs.

This gave her:
1st place in her weight class (61-70lbs)
1st place for most weight pulled for dogs under 70lbs
1st place for most weight pulled per pound for dogs under 70lbs

Congrats to the other dogs who also placed and got medals. I don't know them all, but I know Magnum (also owned by Ben and Sasha) won his weight class and Roc (owned by Hawaii Julz) won his class as well.

Some of the American Bulls that came out did well too. I believe Whitey, Bones, and Mana all pulled 1800-2000lbs on Saturday.

This is Diamond's 1200lb pull...

Bullies In Paradise Hilo

Okay, okay, okay - I'm tired of Allen bugging me about it and I really did need to get off my butt and do this.  We had a blast up in Hilo for the Bullies in Paradise event.  Not only because the dogs did well, but we were "on vacation," got to see a bunch of great dogs, and got to hang out with a bunch of cool people.  What more can you ask for on a weekend?

What's even cooler is that Diamond did well in the weight pulling fun match.  Now, we haven't been training her hard because we were hoping she was going to be having puppies.  When it looked like that wasn't going to happen, we began to work her a little more.  But we really only got to work her about 10 days strong.  In any case, she didn't win pound for pound (a 40-something pounder from Kona name Angel won that), but she did win her weight division!  So she got a cool ribbon and bowl.

Then on Sunday, they had a fun show. We entered Moose, Diamond, and Midgi (our new Frenchie).

Midgi won her age group (0-6 months).

Then Moose came up and won for 6-12 month old male. A female named "Patches" won best overall for the 6-12 month old group.

Diamond didn't place, but that's okay, she had fun anyway!

Then, they called up all the dogs that had blue ribbons. This included both the Frenchie and Moose. They awarded one dog for Best of Show and one for People's Choice.

MOOSE won the Best of Show!!!

That was cool!

We did have quite a few inquiries about him in Hilo. Even people who've seen him here on the website or up on MySpace were kind of surprised at how he looked in person. We were told a number of times that he looks much more impressive in person than he does in his pictures. Of course, we think so too, but then we're kind of biased because he's our dog.

So anyway - that's how the weekend went. We had fun, the dogs did well, and we got to cruise with great people and even see a bit of the island.

UKC Clinic in Hawaii

I just found out a few details about a UKC Clinic in Hawaii. Basically you can come (and bring your dog) to learn about how to handle your dog.

Learn about:
How to show your dog and bring out his/her best physical qualities
How to walk your dog in the ring
How to walk your dog as you enter/exit the ring
How to get your dog to walk next to you
...and much more.

The clinic will be broken down into two parts: a classroom portion and an outside/hands on portion. This clinic will be run by the Hawaii UKC Judge, David Gomez.

When I have all the registration details, I'll post them here. Right now, all I know is:
  • The Clinic will be held on July 19th (Saturday) in Mililani
  • Check-in is at 9:30 with the clinic beginning promptly at 10:00am
  • Cost is $10 per handler/dog pair
When I have all the details, I will update with all the information and will let you know how to register as well.

New Picture of Little Miss

It's Miss's turn. Here's her new picture. She's Moose's sister, so she's 5 months also. We'll probably be breeding her at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2009.

Miss after a bath...

Not very "tree stumpy" at all ;)

Hawaii Dog Pull This Month

Right now some of the talk among the local pitbull community is about the Dog Pull which will be held later this month. We went to last year's pull and it was pretty good. The only bad thing was the drizzle during the pull and the fact that the tent that was set up was too small to cover all the spectators. I think this dog pull will be even more crowded because of all the people who know about it. Just about everyone that we know that has a pitbull knows about the dog pull.

If you're in Hawaii and you'd like to go, it's going to be on March 18th at King Intermediate (Kane'ohe). From what I understand there will be a couple more classes/categories than the last time and probably a lot more dogs too. Also, the guy that we bought Koni's harness and collar from is supposed to be there with the leather collars and harnesses. We also plan on going, but haven't decided whether or not we'll bring and of our dogs. We were thinking of bringing Li'ili'i, but it looks like she's going into heat so that wouldn't be such a good idea.

Anyway - if it's a sunny day and you don't have anything else to do, go check out the dog pull on March 18th.
